Carol Dweck is a Psychology Professor who studied students mindsets in the educational system. Through her research, she found that students who worked harder when they faced a challenge and strived to improve had more academic success opposed to students who gave up when something proved to difficult for them. The students who improved have something Dweck calls a growth mindset; the belief that the brain can be trained like a muscle to improve intelligence. The students who had less success have a fixed mindset. The believe that intelligence cannot be improved.
